Virginia City Valentine's Day Pub Crawl 2019 — VCMCo. brand event on C Street

2019 Valentine Pub Crawl — The Devil Made Me Do It (And So Did the Market)

February 2019. Virginia City. Snow on the ground, booze not stopping for anyone, and VCMCo. out in the wild with a fresh batch of designs — some of which, in hindsight, were terrible.

That's the honest version of this story, and it's worth telling. Because every brand that gets it right eventually had to go through the phase of getting it wrong first.

"The Devil Made Me Do It" Pub Crawl

The 2019 Valentine's Day Pub Crawl in Virginia City was billed as a night for love seekers — and Virginia City delivered in its signature style. C Street in February is a different animal than C Street in summer. The tourists are gone, the crowd is local and loyal, and the saloons feel like exactly what they are: historic Nevada institutions that have been keeping people warm since the 1860s. Snow fell. Nobody cared. The booze didn't stop pouring and everyone had a tremendous time.

This is what Virginia City does. It takes any occasion — Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Nevada Day, a random Tuesday — and turns it into something worth showing up for. There is never a bad time in Virginia City. We've said it before and we'll keep saying it because it keeps being true.

Taking New Designs to Market

We were out that night spreading the word about VCMCo. — meeting new people, talking about the brand, and putting some new designs in front of real human beings to see what would land. That last part is important: to see what would land.

Some of those early designs were terrible. I can say that now with the clarity of hindsight and a few years of market feedback. We were a young brand in 2019, still figuring out what VCMCo. was and what it wasn't, still learning what the riding community actually wanted to wear versus what looked good on paper. Some of those early shirts got revamped. Some got retired entirely. The styles evolved, the artwork got sharper, and the brand found its voice.

But you don't get there without going out in the snow in February with a box of shirts and a willingness to hear what people think. That's what market testing looks like when you're a small independent brand — not focus groups and surveys, but pub crawls and honest conversations with locals who will tell you exactly what they think.

What Never Changed

Through all the design iterations, the revamped styles, the shirts that worked and the ones that didn't — one thing never wavered: our love for Virginia City. VCMCo. was built here, named for this place, and rooted in the history and culture of the Comstock. That doesn't change with a new shirt style or an updated design. It's the foundation everything else is built on.

Virginia City is not just a backdrop for the brand. It's the reason the brand exists. The Victorian heritage, the mining history, the mountain roads, the saloons, the community that shows up for every event in every season — that's what VCMCo. is made of. The designs get better. The love for VC never wavers.

We Love Motorcycles. We Love Meeting People.

That's really the whole story of a night like the Valentine's Pub Crawl. We love motorcycles. We love meeting new people. We love Virginia City. Put all three together on a snowy February afternoon with a pub crawl called "The Devil Made Me Do It" and you've got a pretty good day regardless of how the shirts sell.

Come find us at all the great Virginia City events. We'll be there — with better designs every year, and the same love for this place we've always had.
